If I recall, on my E36 it was 2 one way barbed pins that press into the front of the cushion and then press into the seat frame. Will make up for the compression that's happened to your seat foam over the years and make for a tighter, more professional look.The "twist" there is a little less obvious than when the back malfunctions, but when the seat base is fully elevated it limits headroom quite a bit. I left the rear covers untouched after initial installation because they look good.
